GLITZ and GLAMOURPhilippine Association of Hong Kong Independence Day Ball The Conrad Hotel Ballroom turned out to be like the red carpet on Oscar night last June 14. The PAHK’s Annual Philippine Independence Day Ball entitled “Glitz and Glamour”. Staying true to their theme this year, The Philippine Association of Hong Kong members and guests arrived in what could have been an awards night in Hollywood (the 6-foot tall Oscar-like trophies helped by the way). Commemorating the Philippines 110th Independence day, the PAHK celebrated this year’s event with flash and finesse. In attendance are the fashion savvy Filipinos in Hong Kong, from the Philippine Consulate, corporate leaders and from the various segments in the Filipino community. It was indeed a night of Glitz and Glamour hosted by the dynamic duo of Mel and Jay (Jomel Basa and Jay Martinez) with the bubbly Blossom Valiente. The sumptuous meal was provided for by The Conrad’s Filipino Chef and the out-of-this-world entertainment was delivered by performances of the witty Ms. Nanette Inventor, Powerhouse Jano Gibbs and the phenomenal Ms. Bituin Escalante. Music was provided for by band-extraordinaire Impulz, one of Hong Kong’s hottest club bands. The night’s event was highlighted by the auction of Filipino Artist, Joel Ferraris’ painting, “Glitz and Glamour”. The PAHK also would like to thank in particular Mr. Patrick Bennet who topped off the donation and Mr. & Mrs. Bernie Vergara who acquired the painting for the benefit of the “Home of the 100th Sheep” which is a Philippine - Christian based Montessori school for less fortunate children based in Cavite. PAHK also gave away prizes for the attendees. Up for grabs were various prizes for the event’s Raffle Draw. The gifts ranged from overnight hotel stays, free air tickets by Philippine Airlines to resort accommodations at El Nido, Palawan! The event was a rousing success. It seems that every year the Philippine Association of Hong Kong Independence Day Ball gets bigger and better. We wonder what will be in store for next year.
